Animal/Pet Portrait Commission Information

Thank you, I’m glad you’ve decided to take a look at this page. Paintings of our animals are such a personal reminder of loved family members. I do my utmost to capture the details that matter to you and take my time to ‘get it right’. I can send progress reports regularly so that you can see your pet coming to life on paper.

Prices start from £295 per head (head and shoulders) A background can be included but this will cost extra according to the detail required. The image size is approx 12 x 10 inches, fitting an 18 x 14 inch mount (with a 2 inch surround), wrapped in cellophane, with a certificate of authenticity, ready to take to the framers or I can organise the framing for you if you are local to me. If you would like a different size or have any more questions then please don’t hesitate to ask me in the box below.

For 2 heads I charge £395 fitting either a 20 x 16 or 24 x 20 inch mount

Please allow at least a 2 -3 week turn around depending on time of year, for example, Christmas is a busy time so please book by mid November to avoid disappointment. I can work from your own photographs which should show as much detail as possible and the more the better. Please send them direct to jspeckart@gmail.com

Hints on taking good photographs:

A good reference photograph is generally taken at the same eye level as the animal to give the correct perspective. It’s really best taken outside, on an overcast day so the colours will be more natural. Please take the collar off, unless you specifically want me to paint it. The best posture would be sitting so I can see the neck and shoulders.

Please don’t worry if your pet is no longer with you, just email a few of your best photographs indicating your utmost favourites and I will see if what I can do. Include a short description of your beloved pet describing their character as this will give me an idea of how to portray your pet.

If you prefer, I can take my own photographs, within a 15 mile radius of Wimborne, Dorset. This way I can also get to know your pet’s character, feel their fur texture, look at the colour of their fur and eyes for exact colour matching. For this I charge a nominal fee to cover travel.

If you are unsure what medium you would like, we can discuss this together. I normally paint in pastels, watercolour or graphite. Examples of these you may have already seen on my Commissions Page.

Other Commissions

I also welcome commissions of any wildlife, particular locations or landmarks, landscape or coastline. If you have a photograph you’ve taken, then please send the photograph using the email above. Prices start from £295 (including mount) depending on how large you would like it. We can discuss this and the medium you would prefer so I would love to hear from you.
