Commissions Welcome using the ‘Contact’ Page

Everywhere I look, home and abroad, I am faced with millions of painting opportunities. I click away with my camera phone at anything that grabs my attention, it could be a dilapidated shed, light streaming through the trees, reflections in water, the shapes of the eroding cliffs or the colours in the sunset. The difficulty is then choosing the right photograph that would make a good painting. I ask myself, “What do I want to tell the viewer about this scene? Why was I drawn to it? What is the ‘star’ of the show?” I would then draw up a few thumbnail sketches to to decide on the best composition for the painting. The beauty is I don’t have to be a slave to the photograph and put every detail in. I can leave things out if I don’t feel they have anything to add to the narrative. ‘Artistic licence’ I believe it’s called!

Have you got a favourite place you love to visit and do you know why it’s so special? If you would like a painting of it, I would be happy to hear from you especially if it is in Dorset. I would visit your chosen location first to get a feel for it then sketch it whilst I’m there or if you have a favourite photograph I can work from that too.
