About The Artist/Art Tutor

Although born in Cheshire in 1964, my family moved to Dorset when I was 2 years old. Living close to the sea and countryside, my love of the Natural World and outdoor life was inevitable. A Civil Servant for 10 years and in Leisure for 23, art was always my hobby but in 2015 I took redundancy and followed my dream, to paint professionally, the best decision ever!

My paintings are an extension of my love for nature and all things wild, especially species that are rapidly declining due to human impact. Alongside other artists, I exhibit, sell and donate paintings to help raise crucial funds for global wildlife conservation charities.

Although watercolour is my favourite medium, I find it the most challenging. I use the white of the paper for the highlights and traditionally paint from light to dark, using limited brushstrokes and a limited palette to produce harmonious paintings.

In recent years I have taken up animal portrait commissions, teaching art workshops at home and demonstrating to local art groups. Having been a member of many art groups and societies myself, some of my paintings have been finalists in competitions, won awards and sold internationally.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my website, I hope you like some of what you see. I welcome commissions of wildlife, landscapes and seascapes. I’ve even painted a Mustang car and a working fishing boat with the captain and his dog on board! I would love to hear from you if you are contemplating a commission, would like tuition, attend a fun workshop or would like to enquire about one of the paintings featured. My ‘shop’ will be up and running shortly but please use the contact page or email me direct with enquiries jspeckart@gmail.com
