About The Artist/Art Tutor
Jacqueline is a watercolour and pastel artist as well as an art tutor based in Dorset. She is known for painting all sorts of animals, wildlife and landscapes portraying characterful and realistic paintings. She donates some of her art to raise money for global wildlife charities in online auctions including ‘Explorers Against Extinction’, ‘Artists for Painted Dogs’, ‘The UK Wild Otter Trust’ and ‘The Wildlife Trusts’.
Her approach to her watercolour painting is a traditional one, using the white of the paper for the highlights but her use of colour and light are what she strives to get right, often using more exciting colour choices where she can, “well not all elephants grey” she says.
Jacqueline’s pet portraits are made using the best quality and archival materials for longevity. She uses a mixture of Pan Pastels, Unison and Terry Ludwig soft pastels and Derwent, Stabilo Carbothello and Faber Castell pastel pencils on Clairefontaine Pastelmat paper. Where she can she likes to meet the animal, watch it’s character and personality shine and study the colours of the fur and eyes and obviously take lots of photographs for different poses, often using more than one for the actual portrait.
Her tuition covers beginners to intermediates in either fun workshops or 4-6 week courses, in several media, at her home studio in Corfe Mullen, Wimborne. She covers a wide range of subjects from still life to stunning cliffs to colourful sunsets. Her enthusiasm to pass on her knowledge is second to none. She believes everyone can be taught the fundamentals of art, if you have a willingness to learn and give yourself the time to practice.
She has exhibited her work with several art societies and groups and has won various awards ‘best in show’, ‘highly commended’ and is held in private collections here and abroad. She is currently working on a new series of paintings depicting the local landscape she has been admiring all her life, using rather different techniques than her animal portraits, so watch this space.
